The story is about Ama Torres, who became a wedding planner because she planned many of her mom’s sixteen weddings. Whilst I acknowledge that they did add different layers to the story, it just seemed to throw off the flow that had been building. I can’t explain what precisely caused me to keep from giving this a higher rating, but I think it had something to do with the structure of the past vs present unraveling of Ama and Elliot’s relationship and the resulting balance of the relationship dynamics. There was forced proximity because they both worked together in the past timeline and it added to the tension and spark between them.

The present chapters mostly revolved around the influential and famous wedding of Hazel and Jackie—the golden chance for Ama to boost her career—and it actually revolved so much around her business and her own life. I guess for both the flashbacks and present, it would have been nice to have more scenes in between instead of summarizing what happened over those weeks while they didn't interact. I'd like to say, I'd be perfectly content to spend my mornings binge-reading blogs and interviews on all the dream weddings she worked on.

Some scenes had SO MUCH going on, it felt like watching a movie where everything is happening at the same time and you’re just gobbling it up. Also I’ve been posting a ton of historical romance lately (bc I’m truly in my historical romance era right now), but I wanted to break that up and finally post a contemporary review! When Elliot cried after she broke up with him—my heart ached so badly—ugh, I'm so sad; he's too precious, wth 😭💔 And I can't believe all those years he thought that IT WAS HIS FAULT THAT SHE LEFT HIM, BECAUSE HE COULDN'T STAY CONTENTED WITH WHAT SHE WAS GIVING HIM.I don’t want to give anything away, but the way she handles the wedding at the end was the best thing I’ve ever seen and she is an icon/the moment/a boss I think about this scene approximately once a week for no reason. The drama behind the celebrity wedding in the present tense, the visuals my mind conjured when the floral meetings were described, and Elliot just being *cough* Elliot were all strong aspects of the novel.
