That said, the Powerbeats Pro aren’t Apple-exclusive and will work with Android and Windows 10 devices. All you need to do is hold the pairing button inside the charging case and select the Powerbeats Pro on the device you want to pair. There’s almost no difference in sound quality that we could hear between a paired iOS device (our iPhone 8) and a paired Android device (our Google Pixel 3a XL), as both connections use Bluetooth 5.0. These earbuds still aren’t noise-cancelling like the AirPods Pro, nor are they water-proof like the Jaybird Run XT, nor do they sound as good as the Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds. In terms of sound quality, the Powerbeats have a decently wide soundstage and good overall clarity in the entire audio spectrum. They match what we've heard from other earbuds around this price point but there are certainly cheaper, better-sounding alternatives out there if you're an audiophile.

Prior to the Apple takeover, a lot of Beats headphones, for all their sales success, sounded remarkably mediocre. That changed with 2017's noise-cancelling Studio3 Wireless, which are easily a match for the likes of Bose's QuietComfort 35, and the audio improvement continues with the Powerbeats Pro.
In terms of codec support, you won't find aptX or aptX HD on-board, but you will get AAC and SBC on both Apple iOS and Android devices. The former is nice if you want to add a little more depth to the sound of your favorite music, while the latter makes the headphones' connection stable in a crowded listening environment.While they're not the best wireless earbuds on the market, the Powerbeats are promising contenders when compared to similarly priced wireless headphones, and lightyears ahead of their original namesake that launched eight years ago. In terms of battery longevity, we used the PowerBeats 3 for four to five days on average before needing to charge them again, and that’s with both regular runs and general commuting use. Testing conducted by Apple in March 2019 using preproduction Powerbeats Pro units and Powerbeats3 Wireless units and software paired with iPhone XS units and prerelease software. Testing consisted of transferring phone call audio from iPhone to Powerbeats Pro and Powerbeats3 Wireless. Performance depends on device settings, environment, and many factors. The fit is pretty good, and for people with more ‘enclosed’ ears likely almost perfect. Some might struggle to get a good seal with the tips, thanks to the hooks holding the buds at a slightly wider angle, but overall the PowerBeats are comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, however, if you want wireless charging, you won’t find it here. If you want to stay within the Apple family, only the latest versions of the AirPods have that feature so, for now, you’ll still have to use a lightning cable to charge the case every few days.
