I've heard it's also good for experienced mixers who are seeking to develop their skills, but I can't talk for that as I am not one of them! However, Mike also enjoys describing some particularly elaborate and advanced applications, often using complicated side‑chain processing — but always to achieve a worthy end goal! By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.

The book is very readable, in Mike's familiar, approachable and often humorous style, and with plenty of illustrations, all of which maintain the interest from cover to cover. Jim Williams has spent much of his 56 years working with some of the biggest names in the music business, including Frank Zappa, John McLaughlin and Stevie Wonder. It won't give you fantastic mixes overnight, but it's likely to alter your perspective on at least some of the steps along the way and point you in the correct direction, enabling you to become a fantastic mix engineer if you put in the work. There is a lot of good info in this book, but was completely taken aback by the overwhelmingly high reviews it got.Pick up tricks and tips from leading-edge engineers working on today's multi-platinum hits, including Michael Brauer, Serban Ghenea, the Lord-Alge brothers, Tony Maserati, Manny Marroquin, Dave 'Hard Drive' Pensado, Jack Joseph Puig, Mark 'Spike' Stent, Phil Tan, Andy Wallace, and many, many more. First you’ll discover how to prepare yourself and your studio for truly productive work, but without breaking the bank.

There are, however, ways to maximize the effectiveness of your efforts, and this is the best I know when it comes to mixing. On the way, you'll unravel the mysteries of every type of mix processing, from simple EQ and compression through to advanced spectral dynamics and "fairy dust" effects. For a person with a limited budget who is willing to put in the time to work through Mike’s lesson plan, Mixing Secrets is an invaluable resource. The 340‑page book contains 20 chapters grouped into four main sections covering hearing and listening, mix preparation, balancing, and sweetening. Great care has been taken to ensure accuracy in the preparation of this article but neither Sound On Sound Limited nor the publishers can be held responsible for its contents.Additional value is derived by providing a firm and comprehensive foundation of mixing fundamentals. Learn the subtle editing, arrangement, and monitoring tactics which give industry insiders their competitive edge, and master the psychological tricks which protect you from all the biggest rookie mistakes.

The most useful, up-to-date and comprehensive book I've read on the labyrinthine subject of mixing music.

This is a good solid book to help a budding audio engineer understand the concepts (and some of the tricks) of mixing music. Since 2007 he has transformed dozens of amateur productions for Sound On Sound magazine's popular 'Mix Rescue' column, proving time and again that you can achieve commercial-grade results with affordable gear -- once you know how! with the emphasis always on helping the reader to understand when and why to use a particular technique, before explaining how in great practical detail. As you become successful enough to justify more expensive equipment, Mixing Secrets will be there to help you make the most out of your time and effort.
