Collis, Clark (August 22, 2016). "Bruce Campbell's Horror Film Festival: Special Groovy Report". Entertainment Weekly . Retrieved May 24, 2018. During the next three months, Evil Dead left a path of destruction through the South as wide as Sherman’s march to the sea. I couldn't really rate this 5 stars though, because there were some parts of it that I was just like "Ehhh, ok then" about - like a lot of the stuff about his childhood with his brothers, which was funny at times, but didn't really interest me much. I wanted to know about his work, not how many toy soldiers he mutilated. Campbell had a major voice role for the 2009 animated adaptation of the children's book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and a supporting voice role for Pixar's Cars 2. [17] Exceptionally literate yet conversational, wide-ranging but never wandering, and copiously, gleefully illustrated…”

Mr. Campbell takes us through his life to date with a clear, unselfconscious writing style that has a conversational tone. He doesn't seem to be keen on hamming it up in his book or embellishing it with the flair he puts in his films. Writing per se is apparently not his first passion, but there is a sense of honesty and a self-deprecating humor that shines through. The behind-the-scenes look at the moviemaking process and the world of working actors was a treat for me, though, and since Bruce so obviously enjoyed telling it, I enjoyed reading it.So anyway, Bruce Campbell is one of my favorite actors. Not the best actor in the world, mind you, but a favorite because: 1) He’s kind of an underdog. If you’re a fan, you can see his guest spot on “The X-Files” and be like, “thataway Bruce.” 2) He brought as much to the Evil Dead With that, he rallied himself and carried on shooting. On the way home that night, he passed out cold. Campbell and Raimi collaborated with a 30-minute Super 8 version of the first Evil Dead movie, titled Within the Woods (1978), which was initially used to attract investors. [6] He and Raimi got together with family and friends to begin working on The Evil Dead (1981). While featuring as the protagonist, Campbell also participation with the production of the movie, receiving a co-executive producer credit. Raimi wrote, directed, and edited the movie, while Rob Tapert produced. After an endorsement by horror author Stephen King, the movie slowly began to receive attention and offers for distribution. [7] Four years after its original release, it became the most popular movie in the UK. It was then distributed in the United States, resulting in the sequels Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992). [8] Campbell was also drawn in the Marvel Zombie comics as his character, Ash Williams. He is featured in five comics, all in the series Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness. In them, he fights alongside the Marvel heroes against the heroes and people who have become zombies (deadites) while in search of the Necronomicon (Book of the Names of the Dead). [9] Campbell also played as Coach Boomer in the movie “Sky High”.

Mottram, James (April 13, 2023). " ' Evil Dead Rise ': inside the year's scariest horror film". NME . Retrieved April 13, 2023. Lee Cronin: "Bruce came over to Ireland when we were working on the sound and I asked him if he would do this teeny, tiny, little cameo for me. And the fun part is, that's not necessarily Bruce Campbell playing someone else – that could very well be Ash Williams." The truth is that though you might not have a clue who I am, there are countless working stiffs like me out there, grinding away every day at the wheel of fortune. Thanks to Bruce's dramatic reading and witty prose, this is one of the all time best listens I've ever gotten from audible.com.Case in point: look to your left - see that Judy Garland book? You don't need that, you know plenty about her already - great voice, crappy life. Now look to your right at the Charlton Heston book. You don't need to cough up hard-earned dough for that either. You know his story too - great voice, crappy toupee. Exceptionally literate yet conversational, wide-ranging but never wandering, and copiously, gleefully illustrated…” — Booklist Campbell directed, produced, and featured in the documentaries Fanalysis (2002) and A Community Speaks (2004); co-wrote, directed, produced, and featured in the movie Man with the Screaming Brain (2005); and directed, produced, and featured in a parody of his career My Name Is Bruce (2007). Collis, Clark (August 22, 2017). "Bruce Campbell says he won't play Elvis in Bubba Ho-Tep sequel". Entertainment Weekly . Retrieved May 24, 2018.

a b Andrews, Tim (March 15, 2021). Radio Labyrinth Presents - Interviews - Bruce Campbell. Radio Laberynth Podcast– via YouTube. The Awesome Fest Presents: Bruce Campbell's Horror Film Festival @ Chicago Comic Con 2014". Archived from the original on July 24, 2015. If you like the typical glitzy Hollywood story, this isn't for you. Campbell writes, "St. Martin's Press, in their wisdom/foolishness decided to give me a shot on this tale of Hollywood's unrecognized lower middle class." He succeeded in showing that to me. From the importance of the guy that cleans up the lot to all the techs & extras. I was also surprised by the breadth of his experience & the number of roles he has had. Very cool. Get Burnt DVD commentary feature for episode 3: Fight or Flight". usanetwork.com. Archived from the original on October 4, 2012.McIntyre, Gina (December 19, 2008). "Bruce Campbell's spoof hits home in several ways". Los Angeles Times . Retrieved May 24, 2018. If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor is the great BC's autobiography. He is very upfront about his intent to show the "blue-collar Hollywood" here. What he also reveals is that he was once just a typical kid growing up in Michigan, with perhaps an atypical talent for plotting, campaigning, jerri-rigging and otherwise pulling off one kind of mischief or another. He also seems to have had a lot of friends who shared his creative spirit and interest in making Super 8 movies (yes, that includes Spiderman's director Sam Raimi). Combine all these factors with a self-admitted intention to goof off for a living, and you have the makings of the only kind of film crew capable of making the likes of Evil Dead: offbeat, and forced by a shoestring budget to improvise and innovate. It also helped that there wasn't some kind of filmmaking bigshot hanging around to point out why what they were attempting was impossible. Patten, Dominic (October 7, 2016). "Starz Renews 'Ash Vs. Evil Dead' For Third Season – NY Comic-Con". Deadline . Retrieved October 8, 2016. A large part of this book is devoted to the Evil Dead movies, particularly the first one. Afterall, this was his very first movie made on a shoestring budget with buddy Sam Raimi when they were hardly more than teenagers. The details of their creativity and inventiveness was downright fascinating. It was really fun to read about how this group of childhood friends achieved their dreams of movie making. Quite a success story to think that they all ended up working in the business for many years, just the way they had dreamed of as kids.

Campbell often performs quirky roles, such as Elvis Presley for the movie Bubba Ho-Tep. [14] Along with Bubba Ho-Tep, he played a supporting role in Maniac Cop and Maniac Cop 2, and spoofed his career in the self-directed My Name is Bruce. [15] Bruce Lorne Campbell (born June 22, 1958) is an American actor and moviemaker. He is known best for his role as Ash Williams in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead horror series, beginning with the short movie Within the Woods (1978). He has also featured in many low-budget cult movies such as Crimewave (1985), Maniac Cop (1988), Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (1989), and Bubba Ho-Tep (2002).

The next location was an isolated dirt road. Sam felt that a high, wide shot would be best. We weren’t versed in the etiquette of location shooting, so no effort was made to get permission of any kind. We just hopped the fence and set up the camera. Things were going pretty well, until Josh spotted a large bull glaring at the crew.
